WHO AM I?

Hello there! My name is João, I was born in Coimbra, Portugal.

I studied Biomedical Engineering at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. In the last year of my undergraduate degree I had a one-year Erasmus experience living in Italy, during which I carried my Master thesis, in the University of Pavia. I completed a PhD in Health Sciences at the University of Coimbra. Using fMRI as a primary tool, I was particularly interested in human visual perception. I studied also brain structure and function in the context of health and disease. Currently I am a post-doc at CIBIT-ICNAS (University of Coimbra), doing research in the area of neuroimaging and machine learning applied to both basic and translational neuroscience.

Outside of my research, my interests lie in sports, traveling, writing, geography and languages. I played rink hockey since I was 6 years old, currently I am a coach and an enthusiastic fan.
